Makoon Transition Inc. is a dedicated organization providing reunification and prevention services to families. Our wrap-around approach offers 24-hour support to families who have recently been reunited with their children, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed for a successful transition.

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, Family Support Worker Supervisor and Family Support Worker Team Lead, you will be responsible to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our families.
To strive as a whole to foster strong healthy relationships for the success of the families always following policies and procedures of Makoon Transition Inc.
We are currently hiring Full-time Family Support Workers (FSWs) to join our team. Two shift options are available:
- ● Hours: 4PM– 12:00AM or 2PM-12AM
- ● Schedule: Four days on, followed by four days off
Responsibilities:
- ● Monitoring and securing the well being and safety of all our families.
- ● Knowledge of First Nations communities, culture, and history is an asset.
- ● Routine family wellness checks of each family unit, seeing children are safe, healthy and units clean.
- ● Wellness checks are documented before leaving at the end of shift with all correct information, unit, names, times and date of shift.
- ● MUST have your own transportation to and from work.
- ● To be prompt for each shift and ready to work in a positive manner.
- ● Sign in and out daily for accountability of attendance and tracking of time.
- ● Must remain on site on your assigned shift during your 30 minute lunch and two, 15 minutes breaks.
- ● Able to assist in each area when completely trained.
- ● Maintain a professional relationship with all families and other collaterals internal and external of Makoon Transition Inc. not crossing any ethical boundaries.
- ● Follow all rules, policies and regulations enforced by Makoon Transition Inc being a positive role model.
- ● Protect the integrity and work culture of Makoon Transition Inc.
- ● Follow the chain of command and communications process internal and external of Makoon Transition Inc.
- ● Be bonded for handling petty cash and make sure all receipts are handed in to the Finance Administrator.
- ● Ensure no unapproved visitors enter the premises and that all visitors sign in.
- ● When responding to emergency or crisis situations and/or contact 911, Program Manager, FSW Supervisor and Management.
- ● Able to remain calm and de-escalate conflict or potential emergency situations with active listening and clear communication.
- ● Ensure no drugs, alcohol or illegal substances enter the building.
- ● Conducting walkthroughs of the building to ensure all exits are secure and safe, free from all debris.
- ● Respond to family’s questions or concerns with empathy and professionalism.
- ● Do not contribute or start Lateral Violence.
- ● Complete detailed shift reports and wellness checks upon completion of every shift on Makoon Transition Inc. Database.
- ● Responds professionally to emails and keeps organization of work emails updated.
- ● Attend staff meetings, participate in family events and team building activities.
- ● All Other duties as assigned.
Qualification:
- ● Grade 12 education required. A college or university education is preferred, 3-5 years experience in Child Welfare.
- ● Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
- ● CPR First Aid and de escalation training.
- ● Mental Health First Aid.
- ● Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
- ● Strong verbal, written and communication skills to articulate care plans to clients, co-workers and professionals.
- ● Knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office with the ability to navigate shared drives.
- ● Follow the mission and vision statements of Makoon Transition Inc. for the success of the families and organization.
- ● Strong organized and time management skills are a must to work with multiple families.
- ● Must provide Criminal Record, Adult and Child Abuse registry checks.
- ● Agree to random drug testing for illegal substance use and alcohol for work safety.
