Maintenance Worker

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director and SW Supervisor and Training Coordinator you will be responsible for the daily upkeep of building maintenance repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • ● Repair small holes/ patching
  • ● Repairs and if required installation of plumbing fixtures such as taps, sinks and toilets.
  • ● Where possible, perform mechanical and electrical repairs to equipment such as kitchen equipment, clothes dryer and washers, dishwashers, light fixtures, etc.
  • ● Ensuring the building is cleaned daily, vacuuming, and sanitizing when necessary.
  • ● Assemble and disassemble furniture when required.
  • ● Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and stand, walk, bend for extended periods of time.
  • ● Where applicable performs plastering, painting, and decorating for repairs.
  • ● Ensures that maintenance materials are purchased or received, stored, and redistributed, as necessary.
  • ● Establishes and monitors preventative procedures for related equipment, recommends repairs and purchases as needed.
  • ● Tracking of building inventory like Air conditioners and heaters, tools etc.
  • ● Monitors and adjusts heating, temperature controls for facility and water, ventilation, and air conditioning systems by operating the facility’s control systems.
  • ● Ensure the maintenance of the building exterior and grounds as appropriate.
  • ● Maintains a safe living and regulations governing facility safety and safety in the workplace, WHMIS, Workplace Health, and safety Certificates.
  • ● Contact various trades people for various contracts/quotes as required.
  • ● Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments, using hand tools.
  • ● Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of building does not deteriorate.
  • ● Plan and lay out repair work using work orders provided, record maintenance repairs and scan to management when completed.
  • ● Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools and reassemble equipment.
  • ● Monitors the inventory of Makoon Transition Inc. tools and equipment, ensures that it is kept current; ensures that the annual inventory check list is conducted.
  • ● To be prompt for each shift and ready to work in a positive manner.
  • ● Sign in and out daily for accountability of attendance and tracking of time.
  • ● Must remain on site on your assigned shift.
  • ● Follow all rules, policies and regulations enforced by Makoon Transition Inc being a positive role model.
  • ● Follow the chain of command and communications process internal and external of Makoon Transition Inc.
  • ● Communicating any concerns or issues to the Program Manager and Family Support Supervisor immediately.
  • ● Do not contribute or start Lateral Violence.
  • ● Attend staff meetings, participate in family events and team building activities.
  • ● Maintain a professional relationship with all families and other collaterals internal and external of Makoon Transition Inc. not crossing any ethical boundaries.
  • ● Protect the integrity and work culture of Makoon Transition Inc.
  • ● Aware of monitoring and ensuring the well being and safety of all our families.
  • ● MUST have your own transportation to and from work.
  • ● When responding to emergency or crisis situations and/or contact 911, Executive Director and Management Team.
  • ● Ensuring no drugs, alcohol or illegal substances enter the building.
  • ● Respond to family’s questions or concerns with empathy and professionalism.
  • ● Ensuring all hallways and entrances are free from any debris to ensure the safety of our families, snow removal in winter, window cleaning and sidewalks in summer.
  • ● Complete detailed report upon completion of every shift.
  • ● Other duties as assigned.

Qualification:

  • ● Grade 12 education required. First Level apprentice training with electrical and plumbing preferred.
  • ● Able to lift weights over 10 pounds, bend and stand for long periods of time.
  • ● Knowledge of Google Workspace and Microsoft Office with the ability to navigate shared drives.
  • ● Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to a vehicle.
  • ● First Aid, WHMIS Training
  • ● Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.
  • ● Must follow the mission and vision statements of Makoon Transition Inc. for the success of the families.
  • ● Strong organized and time management skills are necessary, able to problem solve and assessment of maintenance jobs.
  • ● Agree to random drug testing for illegal substance use and alcohol for work safety.
  • ● Must provide clear Criminal Record Check, Adult and Child Abuse Registry.

Must Provide:

  • ● First Nation applicants are encouraged to self-identify as being of First Nation descent.
  • ● Three references must be from previous employers.
  • ● Must clearly meet all the requirements posted in Maintenance Worker requirements.
  • ● Must have a complete cover letter and resume.

Pay: From $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
